The Time has finally come to select the Greatest Song. For those of you who participated in my original blog and those who helped me select the top 16 I'm sorry it took me so long. I had to be very thorough with such a big topic and even after all that i know that I am going to have people who don't agree with the top 16. Actually I don't agree with some of them but I used popular vote to select them so I can't do anything about the songs. Enough about that here are the first round matchups.

first seeded Stairway to Heaven vs.sixteenth seeded Back in Black

Eighth seeded A Day in the Life vs. ninth seeded Baba O' Reilly a.k.a Teenage Wasteland

Fifth Seeded Born to be Wild  vs. twelfth seeded Can't Get No Satisfaction

Fourth Seeded House of the Rising Sun  vs. thirteenth seeded Johnny B. Goode

Sixth Seeded Freebird vs. eleventh seeded All Along the Watchtower

Third Seeded Layla vs. fourtheenth seeded Comfortably Numb

Seventh seeded Sympathy for the Devil  vs. tenth seeded The Long and Winding Road

Second seeded Hey Jude vs. fifteenth seeded I Can See for Miles

Voting will end 10 o'clock pm friday. Just like in the greatest band / solo act bracket I will not vote unless there is a tie at the end.

First Round of Greatest Song of All Time Bracket

Nice Topic!   :)

I disagree with most of the choices (how Good Vibrations is not in there is astonishing), but if that's how the votes went, then that's how they went.   :)

The Rolling Stone Top 500:

  • House of the Rising Sun
  • All Along the Watchtower
  • Comfortably Numb
  • The Long and Winding Road
  • Hey Jude

Cheers!

First Round of Greatest Song of All Time Bracket

Well I can think of many songs that I would have in this run off instead of some of these, but like on my blog the voters have spoken some from these I will choose.

Stairway to Heaven

Baba O' Reilly a.k.a Teenage Wasteland

Born to be Wild

House of the Rising Sun

Freebird

Comfortably Numb

Sympathy for the Devil

Hey Jude

Only Comfortably Numb was a hard choice for me and I am sure it will not win it's match up. And thanks for referring to my blog, well at least the tie breaking rules I use there.

No Problem Yankee

I think i'm going to push back the end of voting until I have a sufficient amount of votes since this seems to be moving slow

First Round of Greatest Song of All Time Bracket

Wow so many good songs but again many songs are not here that are great.   You are very brave..................

first seeded Stairway to Heaven vs.sixteenth seeded Back in Black

Eighth seeded A Day in the Life vs. ninth seeded Baba O' Reilly a.k.a Teenage Wasteland

Fifth Seeded Born to be Wild  vs. twelfth seeded Can't Get No Satisfaction

Fourth Seeded House of the Rising Sun  vs. thirteenth seeded Johnny B. Goode

Sixth Seeded Freebird vs. eleventh seeded All Along the Watchtower

Third Seeded Layla vs. fourtheenth seeded Comfortably Numb

Seventh seeded Sympathy for the Devil  vs. tenth seeded The Long and Winding Road

Second seeded Hey Jude vs. fifteenth seeded I Can See for Miles

It looks like the final will include Stairway to Heaven,  I voted against Stairway because it is not the best of Jimmy Paige.

Hey Jude was the Beatles biggest hit together or apart, if the seeds stay true there will be a showdown between Jude and Stairway.

If I am not around put my vote down for HEY JUDE.   Can't Get No Satisfactiopn has been at the top of the list many times but there are not a lot of stone's fans here, if you are a stonee (stoner) than please still vote.

First Round of Greatest Song of All Time Bracket

I'm sure I'll catch alot of heat for this, but why are The Long And Winding Road and Hey Jude on this list? Don't get me wrong, I dig The Beatles.  I could see many of their songs making this list.  A Day In The Life is one of many great songs they have made.  But does anybody actually like those 2 songs or do people just vote for them on reputation?  The Long and Winding Road is pure boredom.  I just keep waiting for the good part to come, but it never does.  Hey Jude has about 6 seconds of music that I truly enjoy; And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain.  The 2nd half of the song is just "na na na na na na na na na hey Jude" repeating over and over and over and over again and again and again.  Does anybody who can easily skip to the next song finish listening to either of those?  Maybe people like them because of the depth of the lyrics and the meaning behind them.  Maybe people like those songs because of the timing of them and all the work that went into them or some other influential reason.  But for me, both songs are pretty lame.  I'm not trying to be a jerk about this.  I know people have different musical tastes (apparently mine is in the minority here).  But how do people really believe those two songs to be great?

Also, brewcrew, why did you remove all the comments from the original blog?

Yankee thanks for putting a link on your blog it should help me out here.

Farnz I thought I had to remove the whole first blog because if I didn't this one wouldn't be visible without some searching. I was wrong turns out I could have just left the blog there but when I went to delete it all it did was remove the comments. I have all the songs and how many votes they recieved, if you would like me to, I could post them on my previous blog.

Farns I agree with a lot of what you said here. A Day In The Life very well could be my favorite song but Baba O'Riley is my favorite song of all time. I probably voted here for Hey Jude just to put a Beatles song through and as a reflex action.
